Note: Plus-size letters are far less standardised than straight sizes: the map shown (1X to 5X across US 14W to 32W) is the most common US convention, but some plus retailers shift each letter up by about two sizes, and bust in centimetres varies several centimetres between charts, so check the brand's own chart. Bust values here follow the Dia and Co body chart.

Letter bands over a numeric scale
Letter sizes are bands, not single points: on this chart a size such as INT L lines up with 2 neighbouring US numbers, so the same letter can round either way between them. The table shows every US value each band covers.
S, M and L are bands that each cover more than one numbered size, so a letter can round either way against the US number. Asia reads these bands as body measurements rather than vanity labels: the Korean 44/55/66 scale, created in 1981 from a survey of about 1,700 women, encoded the average bust and height directly into the number, which is why an imported garment can feel a full size off a Western letter. When a letter is ambiguous, the bust and waist figures settle it.
Common questions
How many US sizes does one letter cover?
Usually two neighbouring numbers, which is why the table lists every US size a letter spans rather than a single match.
Why does an imported medium fit differently?
Many Asian scales encode body measurements, not Western letter conventions, so their idea of medium is pinned to a different bust and height.
