Note: Men's big-and-tall letter sizes are not fully standardised: some makers shift the whole ladder up, labelling a 46 to 48 inch chest as 2XL instead of XL, so these are the most common convention rather than a fixed rule. Chest in centimetres continues the site's own chart at about 5 cm per two inches.

International letters and the British chest number

Letter sizes are bands, not single points: on this chart a size such as INT L lines up with 2 neighbouring UK numbers, so the same letter can round either way between them. The table shows every UK value each band covers.

Each men's letter spans a pair of British chest numbers, so the fit sits in a band. Because the underlying figure is the chest, the letter inherits a solid base, but the room around it is a design decision the size cannot show. That is the gap between buying a shirt and a jacket at the same letter. Reading the chest number the letter covers, then checking the brand's own ease, turns a vague S or M into a size that actually fits the shoulders.

Common questions

Does one men's letter equal one UK number?

No. A letter covers two neighbouring chest numbers, which the table lays out so you can match your own measurement.

Why do same-letter garments fit so differently?

Ease varies by garment. A slim shirt and a tailored jacket at the same letter are built with different room on the same chest.
