Measured foot length against the British scale
The UK number does not track foot length evenly: some 5 mm gains add a half size and others a whole one (UK 12 to UK 13), which is why cm-to-UK charts from different shops disagree by a size. The table above reads the step straight from foot length, so 27 cm lands on UK 8.
The British scale traces back to sizing the foot in barleycorns, so mapping it from a millimetre measurement is more direct than the European route, yet still not perfectly even because the barleycorn is a third of an inch rather than a metric step. Measuring the bare foot removes the brand guesswork: a UK label describes a last, and lasts vary, but foot length does not. That makes the centimetre column the steady anchor when a UK number feels off between two makers.
